The Department of Athletics at the University of Guelph offers a large and diverse selection of fitness, wellness and recreation programs and activities to students, alumni and the broader Guelph community. Over the years, their Fitness and Recreation website had become dated in appearance, contained unengaging activity and programming information, and was limited in its content management functionality. The Department envisioned an engaging and informative website for members of the University community to interact with and approached Sandbox Software to deliver that vision.

After an extensive requirements gathering process which involved multiple stakeholder including staff, students, volunteers, instructors and community members, a blueprint for the new website was established. It features detailed program and activity information, interactive calendars tied directly to the department’s activity management software, engages their audiences by asking them to participate in video and photo sharing, and integrates directly with their registration software.
Outcome
The new Guelph Gryphons Fitness and Recreation website reinforces the strong brand established by the Department. The OASIS CMS makes it easy for staff to update content and media. The new website has become a major vehicle in helping to advertise the athletic facilities and services available at the University, thereby increasing sustainability by reducing the demand for and reliance on printed materials.
Sandbox Software's talented developers custom coded the new Fit and Rec website to integratet with the University of Guelph's ActiveNet service. By directly integrating with the website, Sandbox helped reduce the manual labour load on University of Guelph staff when scheduling classes and facility rentals.
